MLK Meditation On Buddhist Psychology & The State of Current Affairs to Remember

By grasping onto any pleasant feeling tones, 

and trying to make them stick around, 

our disappointments, and resentments will surely follow.

Like when a formerly positive vibe was once experienced as an old friend or relationship 

that has sadly turned into a dark edge that was misled down a black hole. 

Sometimes, we forget that we are all rivers of passing emotions 

instead of  icebergs of unchanging feelings.

That is where monolithic rocks of rigidity remain. 

We may climb those rugged mountains, but if we cling to them, 

then they will become the dirge of our identities. 

Perhaps the gentleness of a deer will guide us into 

an intrinsic adventure in mindfulness that is worth self exploration.

Beware that following the yellow brick road is not a 

destined cure for unwanted feelings, emotions or everyday pain!

The journey in healing is a process of alchemy

rather than a coveted destination.

When we are watching the unfolding situational screenplay of life, 

we can see that our different strokes are not all good times 

because the facts of life and family ties 

are really just everyday moments at the office

that aren’t always easy to make friends with. 

It can be especially hard to say cheers to the unpleasant or neutral feeling tones. 

With all the distractions of the world of 10 thousand things,

 it is hard not to cling to the wanting of

attention seeking, an escape or being entertained. 

Sometimes, boredom is viewed as an enemy,

as is the fear of missing out (FOMO).

Has this pandemic revealed your fomophobia?

Rather, being awake is merely a process for dreaming a new dream,

and sitting with what is.

In this realm, we are allowing for fluidity, mutability, 

and an open passivity with the changing seasons of life.

Remember that without the cold, dark days of winter, 

there would be no sunshine and rainbows. 

Or without the disappearance of a warm summer breeze, 

there would be no colorful foliage to peep at. 

You can’t have death without rebirth 

or get to the light without venturing through the dark.

Having an appreciation for the widespread panic of

sarcasm, sardonic humor, or grumpy complaining 

is different from justifying their sharper edges, 

or condoning mood driven attachments to their energies, 

and becoming identified with them.

Like any attachments, our judgments can become security blankets, 

that manifest into memes of our own projections, 

as well as other forms of suffering. 

In the spirit of that . . .  

When we reflect on the solidaridy and soul power of MLK Day, 

may we be inspired to raise our fists, acknowledge the reality of our own fears, 

and step into them with a compassionate activism of empathic courage.

This meditation loosens up our entanglement with form and lightens up our energy field. Is good medicine for nourishing our mind-body-spirit. This meditation helps us stay in alignment with authentic soul and be light on our feet. Enjoy!

Find a comfortable position, relax and focus on your breathing.
Place tip of your tongue on top of your mouth.
Make a circle with your thumb and finger of choice. Do the same with both hands and connect each circle to form a figure 8.
Picture the bottom red ray of rainbow. Breathe in color red and allow your spirit to bathe in healing red energy and bask in its light.
Picture the orange ray of the rainbow. Breathe in color orange and allow your spirit to bathe in healing orange energy and bask in its light.
Picture the yellow ray of the rainbow. Breathe in color yellow and allow your spirit to bathe in healing yellow energy and bask in its light.
Picture the green ray of the rainbow. Breathe in color green and allow your spirit to bathe in healing green energy and bask in its light.
Picture the light blue ray of the rainbow. Breathe in color light blue and allow your spirit to bathe in healing light blue energy and bask in its light.
Picture the indigo ray of the rainbow. Breathe in color indigo and allow your spirit to bathe in healing indigo energy and bask in its light.
Picture the violet ray of the rainbow. Breathe in color violet and allow your spirit to bathe in healing violet energy and bask in its light.
Picture entire rainbow. Breathe in all colors and allow your spirit to bathe in healing colorful energy and bask in its light.

Father Sky-Mother Earth Meditation

Here is a meditation that helps us integrate the energies of the heavens and the earth into our Being. In this way, we co-create Heaven on Earth by becoming living conduits in this process.

–Find a space outside and get into a comfortable sitting position on the ground.
–Breathe in slowly through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth, while feeling your belly expanding.
–Imagine the energy from the cosmos entering in through a tube in the top of your head (crown chakra) as you inhale.
–Imagine the energy flowing down though your body and exiting your buttocks (root chakra)–with a slight squeeze, as if you are going poop and flushing through a tube into the earth.
–Take turns reversing this process so that your inhalation and energy arrives from the ground up and exits from the top of your head during your exhalation.
–You can also integrate your heart chakra area by circulating the energy to enter and exit this area and work that into the feedback loop cited above.

Centered Breathing Meditation

As we move forward in our collective journey into a New Age and Paradigm, it is especially important to breathe effectively. You don’t have to be T’ai Chi master, Yoga Guru or Wise Shaman to know the deeply healing medicinal value of breathing. Here is a quick meditation to remember in your daily walking meditation.

1. Breathe in slowly through your nose into the lower part of your lungs.
2. Feel your stomach moving out as you breathe in.
3. Breathe out slowly through your mouth.

This is a great calming-down strategy because you can use it anytime and anywhere. Repeat as necessary. Remembering to breathe is the simplest way to access the internal experience of inner peace.

Cleansing Frog Meditation

Frog is a powerful animal spirit totem for cleansing your soul during your travels in your spirit-mind-body vessel. Consuming Frog Medicine helps the purification and detoxification process of cleansing your soul. May the energy of Frog help you clean up both your inner and outer world. Doing this proactively helps us weather our experiences with Climate Change and effectively transition into a New Age and Paradigm. Here is a shamanic journey meditation to assist you in this area:

*Light incense/candle.
*Start drumming to a consistent beat that feels natural to you. A simple bongo drum works well. Get into a comfortable position, relax and breathe.
*Picture a frog in your imagination and feel its energy coming into your Being.
*Ask Frog for any guidance that you feel is appropriate for you. Being specific with your question is helpful.
*Continue drumming for 10-20 minutes and gently allow yourself to receive whatever arrives to you in your consciousness.
*Thank Frog for its spiritual medicinal offering.
*Remember your callback by opening your eyes and changing your drumbeat. A callback facilitates the transition back into our material reality. A callback can also be in the form of a word or mantra that you prefer. My callback consists of 3 sets of 8 beats, then 3 sets of 3 beats and then 3 sets of 7 beats.
*Record your notes of whatever messages Frog brought to you. These messages might be in the form of feelings, lyrics, sounds, visuals, smells, etc. Let go and gently allow your soul to inform you as you travel along during your daily walking meditation.
