Dog as my Co-Pilot

Does anyone out there remember the bitter taste that accompanies being taken out of inner peace?  While sitting in the hot seat recently, I reflected on my own tendency to get distracted from the distractions, while yielding at taking a closer look at the cumulative effect of what has taken root.  Haven’t I already been there, done that?  Didn’t I already deal with this old wound and can’t I just get on with it?  Did I mention getting really pissed off about it?  But it is the journey, not the destination.  Meditation reminds us that within the process of taking a closer look, we wake up to the deeper layers of our souls–while carrying an accompanying gift bag to make friends with that.  If you are anything like my dying old self, perhaps you have allowed your ego to play spirited tricks on yourself to keep you asleep.  One popular technique is cleverly bypassing the deep hurt of traumas, such as abuse and abandonment issues.  Have you observed the voice in the head that asserts a convincing argument that you have successfully bypassed a putrid stench that you would rather avoid smelling?  However, from a position of empathy, how can I expect to truly blossom into a new flower and sow the seeds of Love, if I do not allow myself the shitty job of composting?  When working Dog medicine in the positive, Dog is a good reminder to heed their message to delve deeply into our soul’s sense of service to others.  The spirit of dog helps us remember our human shortcomings, both in self and in relation with others.

Descendants of coyotes and wolves, I can’t help but appreciate Dog’s presence during the past 10,000 years of our human story.  When I was a child, sometimes I felt myself transform into a greyhound as soon as my feet hit the playground during recess.  I would impatiently stare at the clock and fantasize about the bell signaling to us that it was time to get outside and play.  In fact, it was a magical experience that I shared with constitutionally similar alpha male types that featured behaviors labeled today as AD/HD in clinical speak.  While at a holiday brunch with friends recently, this memory inundated me when a woman commented that she thought a greyhound would be a good fit in our home, should we ever add a dog to the litter.  And then I shared a heartfelt connection with a similar canine breed while tracking in the woods.  I don’t know how our cat with queen bee and feral tendencies would feel about it, but I don’t think the guinea pigs would feel threatened.  And our child is getting older and could help out with the care-taking responsibilities, so I want to be open to the possibility.  In the meanwhile, you don’t have to be a dog lover to feel inspired to be more good-natured, affectionate, friendly, travel in packs and see the good in folks without being judgemental.  Dog is a good remedy to become more devoted in our relationships and nurturing and protective as parents.  Dog also helps us remember to be more discriminate with our personal boundaries and remember to not give our power away to others when looking for direction.  There’s nothing wrong with seeking consultation or guidance through friends, therapists, coaches, etc.  But when it comes to our own souls, we need to explore the depths of information available there.  Ingesting Dog’s energy teaches us how to be more affectionate and faithful companions.  As adults, we teach our children how to become healthy humans by having fun, playing and enjoying life.  Remember that modeling is the most powerful form of teaching.  The old world of “do as I say, not as I do” or “children should be seen but not heard” is dying, as is too permissive, negligent and rigid parenting styles.  Discipline comes from the Latin word disciplina, which means to teach.  Lecturing my own child and students about being a spiritual being having a human experiences is not as powerful or meaningful as working together to prepare a family style meal and hugging good-bye after breaking bread with folks from the office.  It doesn’t matter if you are a union member or not, we all need to tend to our core.  How do you like them apples?

When we take an authentic look within ourselves and the world around us, we feel the deep anger and hurt from real gut-wrenching atrocities and inequities that abound our Planet today.  The other night, I had a clear dream of a dirty nuclear explosion, juxtaposed with an elaborate, composting mechanism that produced green energy, leaving a crystal-clear Carbon Footprint.  Even gated communities and executive neighborhoods in leafy suburban communities have a darkness on the edge of town.  Whether we target greedy wealthy individuals that throw temper tantrums about so-called fiscal cliffs, blame secularism, gay folks for raising kids or Jeremy speaking in class today–we need to dive deeper to find the pearl within.  There will be no peace in our world until we find it within ourselves.  Riding with Dog as your co-pilot will help you effectively navigate through your journey.  On December 21, we said good-bye to our last Winter Solstice on an old Mayan Calendar.  On December 28, we welcome our last Full Moon of 2012.  Did anyone else feel a shift in our collective consciousness?  In a community of men, we stood around a fire and expressed our deep feelings of gratitude, letting go and hopes for a better world, while coaxing back the light.  Further, we reflected that all it takes is a perceptual shift to dissolve our violent and aggressive tendencies to let go and let God when Life’s happenings feel out of control.  At the end of the day, Great Spirit created us in a Blueprint of Love.  Now if the predator in me remembers that at the scent of a de-cleater during our next Sunday morning football game, we’ll all breathe cleaner air, while here on the ground.

With Lizard, We Consciously Draw Our Dreams and Visions To Scale on Classroom Mothership Earth’s Blackboard

A long time ago, I remember catching wind of a fantastic story that the Star Wars saga was actually based upon true events that took place in the Pleiades constellation.  I don’t know about that, but by George, has anyone else heard about a UFO documentary coming soon to a theater near you that posits a revelation of the truth about extraterrestrial involvement on Earth and our collective history?  In the spirit of that, has anyone heard the reimagined story of Master Yoda shedding light on Anakin Skywalker’s curiosity about the difference between Heaven and Hell?  Yoda respected Anakin’s natural Force (Chi) sensitivity and power.  Given that Anakin respected Yoda’s wisdom, he sought counsel from his reptilian friend, by asking Yoda to describe the difference between these places.  First, Yoda became uncharacteristically provocative with the young Jedi by putting him down, calling him a bastard son of a slave and elaborating in that manner. Given his orientation and propensity toward reacting to his anger without reserve, Anakin lit up his saber and was ready to behead his deeply respected Master teacher.  At that point, Yoda said, “hell that is.”  Immediately, Anakin remembered his True Self, relaxed, calmed down and cracked a smile as he put away his saber.  At that eternal moment, the wise lizard asserted, “Heaven this is . . . Physical location they are not, but internal state of consciousness they are.”

Here on Classroom Mothership Earth, a growing number of us are realizing that a deeper reality lies beneath our conscious minds and surface reality of our Planet.  Poignantly, I noticed a lizard arriving in my consciousness recently that served as a bell of mindfulness to pay attention to synchronicity, signs, symbols, dreams and visions.  In the theater of Life, it’s as if lizard is there to help us realize that we are the dreamer behind the dream by watching ourselves with a healthy, detached perspective.  By consciously allowing the arrival of the Dreamtime into our material reality, we are invoking a light-hearted dance between spirit and form.  Meditation on lizard is good medicine for that.  We are here to wake up to the reality that we are spiritual beings having human experiences, not the other way around.  But in our developmentally delayed cultural wars between our attachments to the egotistical mental constructs of us and them, we have been programmed to view ourselves as disconnected and separate from one another and from Great Spirit.  However, we are all One and we are here to wake up to the awareness of that.  I like to dream big and envision peace in the Middle East and a Garden of Eden there now as a Fertile Crescent it once was.  However, I know that I am also part of the heaviness that resides in the energetic field that envelops the old world of Abraham, founding father of the World’s Big Three religions.  Some folks view Israel as a democracy, while carrying a separate intellectual concept that perceives the rest of the region otherwise.  But with respect to the classic Woodie Guthrie song, both lands are part of Great Spirit, meant to be shared in harmony.  We are all part of the land, as the Earth is our Mother.  What we do to Her, we do to ourselves.  While I envision the global dismantling of weapons of mass destruction, I know that I have to disentangle the tentacles of egotism that resides in my Being.  It is seductive to worship the god of judgment and opinion, like a good armchair quarterback.  When we wake up to the awareness that mind is an illusion, we are no longer unconscious robots in the human-made constructs of the world.  When the CEO’s and workers of fast food corporations awaken to the perspective that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, perhaps they will break bread together by enacting a more livable, equitable and sustainable business practice.  Somewhat akin to effectively digesting last week’s hungry Lunar Full Moon, we stick in alignment by shifting gears that facilitate a healthy digestion process when cooking up a New Earth–particularly as we move closer to the Winer Solstice on December 21, 2012.  It might feel like small potatoes, but even one fry can make a difference in France and beyond.

When we allow the light to illuminate the shadows, we look authentically at our natural orientation, especially our shadow sides.  When we keep our wits about us to laugh at ourselves like the full bellied Buddha, we see that Nature often holds up a mirror for us to look at, particularly our shadow sides. Ingesting lizard medicine is a good remedy for this walking meditation.  Saying yes to the energy of lizard means that we say yes to increasing our perceptual powers and heightened sensitivities to physical, emotional, mental, psychic and spiritual subtleties in perception.  But remember to proceed with caution and be mindful of the ego’s trickery during this process.  Increasing our true power means we are neither superior or inferior to anyone else.  There is ego in powers of perception.  Awareness understands that we simply are what we are and it is what it is.  We are consciousness itself, rather than what consciousness has identified with.

Beetle reminds us that all we need is Love

During the week in review, I remember consuming a fresh breath of air, when a beetle landed on my shoulder and tickled my skin.  Subsequently, I found myself resurrecting an old earworm of the classic Beatles song and the great wisdom encapsulated within the spirit of the hard working-class punk band from Britain.  Given the current state of affairs and Anglophile politics on our planet today, I looked up at the sun and then took a moment to soak in a ray of meditation to light me up.  Following that, I felt the heat and familiar resurrection of the Incredible Hulk and Wolverine energy in me that my old self used to react to without reserve.  Today, unlike the Masters of War, I carry the intention of pulling from a repertoire of strategies to give peace a chance.  As we build a New Earth together, it begs the question, where are we on the Map of Consciousness today?  As Fall approaches in the Northern Hemisphere, are we leaving behind our grub stage and moving closer to taking flight as winged creatures?  As it stands, we are at the doorstep of a New Age and Paradigm.  Our old world is dying, while at the same time a New World is birthing.  If humanity has the evolutionary impulse to move forward, then we have a say in how we navigate this process.  And our survival depends on it.  And the rabbit in me reminds us that a carrot to look forward to pictures us consuming a slice of Heaven and digest it mystically well, while leaving our carbon footprint here on Earth.  Football season is leaping upon us and we need to stay on the hop, calm in the pocket like Tom Brady and get down to business without going too nuts in the process.  Besides, I checked in with my squirrel friends and I am glad to report that there are plenty of acorns to share and many blessings ahead as we harvest a Full Moon coming up at the end of the month–even if we forget where we buried our treasures.

I heard a great news story the other day–you know the kind of story with a positive vibe and a happy ending that tends not to get featured on the Corporate Media.  Anyway, one of my mates from the Clubhouse was out in his boat and saw some folks washed up on some rocks.  Not long thereafter, the proper authorities arrived and helped them on their way.  It was the right thing to do and our tax dollars at work.  Now many of you know I like to dream radically about a free for service economy, based on win-win politics, celebrating the good times of Diversity in Unity and birds of a feather flocking together.  However, the conservative in me appreciates a safety net that affords us taxation with representation.  Here in the USA, if our friends in Congress enjoy quality access to health care and liberal entitlements (largely funded by the shrinking Middle Class).  In the spirit of that, doesn’t it stand to reason that the overwhelming majority should too?  If we really want to stop the insanity on Mother Earth, then we need to stop legitimizing our rape of Her and a cease-fire of our aborting Her resources by the satanic worshiping of the devilishly fixed idea of maximum economic profit and worshiping the Almighty Dollar.  In Freeport, Maine, what could be more in alignment with Lucifer than Mitt Romney and his friends at Bain Capital locking their doors to keep folks at bay from demanding that their jobs stay in their hometown, rather than auctioning off a livable wage to greedily exploit workers elsewhere?  But in the spirit of Batman’s good friend commissioner Gordon, a good cop did his job and delivered their protest letter to the barking dawgs at the top of the food chain.  While it is true that the New Deal helped create a strong Middle Class in the USA, that same New Deal has been consistently beaten back by the master illusionism that spin corporate propaganda since before the movement was enacted as policy.  Isn’t it a game of charades when miserly right wingers criticize moderate Republicans like Bill Clinton and President Obama for speaking in populist rhetoric, through the intention of funneling some charity programs to the rascal multitude?  And what about the Underclass that exists in our world today?  Our leaders need to remember that the same systems that oppress, like the US Chamber of Commerce, can also liberate.  And it can happen on a dime, in much the same way that Barry Sanders used demonstrate on the cosmetic and performance-enhanced football field, by faking the socks off raging bulls three times his size.

As I look back on my encounter with beetle recently, I can’t help but hear the resurrection of Thomas Jefferson’s lyrics, “I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.”  Unlike Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, Thomas Jefferson was unsettled about owning human beings and profiting off their free labor.  And we need to remember that our friends at IBM literally made a killing by profiting off their profiling cards that allowed Nazi Germany to effectively execute their targeted genocide of Jews, gypsies, dissidents and gays.  Folks like Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and others who want to beat back social democratic tendencies that seek to level the playing field on planet Earth, want to maintain the status quo of the “rule by few” mantra.  Moreover, the well-oiled and hidden agenda these folks want to push forward has fascist undertones to keep humanity enslaved.  How can these guys still be thirsty after a such a decadent Tea Party?  And our Country Club friends at the liberal elite want the same thing, but would rather keep us quiet by giving us fish, rather than empowering us to catch the fish ourselves.  The fish that drinks in an unlimited supply of water and is still remains thirsty is in desperate need of some serious professional counseling.

Kissed by a Dolphin

Has anyone out there ever been kissed by a Dolphin?  Although I have not been blessed with a physical smooch, I have repeatedly experienced sacred encounters while swimming along side porpoises in the Gulf of Mexico.  One time, I swear I received an unexpected surprise that felt like a telepathic, heartfelt kiss by a porpoise swimming only feet away from me!  Ah, “Dolphin . . . Breath of the Divine, Manna of the Universe, in Oneness We entwine.”  Perhaps it has been awhile since a Dolphin encounter as provocative as the former for yours truly, but I am inspired by Lao Tzu’s energy in me to get out after it as I heed his lyrics, “Nature is the best physician.”  In this “world of 10, 000 things” and bling, bling, why not tap into Dolphin medicine’s free-flowing Spring.  In my internal martial arts studies, I remember noticing that in the process of getting “it”, “it always comes back to the breath”.  And it Sounds True that if We want to really live, then We must remember to breathe!  Why not become aware of Your own breathing, as it transmutes an unconscious experience with Life to a conscious One.  “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”–Alice Walker

Further, if We allow Dolphin’s energy to swim into the waters of Our Consciousness, We say yes to Dolphin’s year-round teachings to discover hidden caverns and underwater cities within the depths of Our souls that exist in the Dreamtime.  Has anyone out there seen the Australian film, ‘The Last Wave’?  I think the film is a flowing stream of consciousness reminding Us to remember how to dream–something We have largely forgotten in Our modern, Western world.  Even though I am still dreaming of a free for service economy, I can hear ‘Men at Work’ singing an old Aboriginal folk spiritual . . . “Do you come from a Land Down Under?  Where women glow and men plunder.  Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder?  You better run, you better take cover.” Many of Us have gotten lost in a sea of conceptual, mental concepts and the robotic doings of Our daily responsibilities and distractions.  But Dolphin is here to remind Us to draw a bridge between Our material realm and the Dreamtime, by putting Us “on notice to be mindful of Your body rhythms and patterns of energy being fed to You from the Creator.”  I choose to drink in from a hopeful Spring that asserts that there is so much help available to Us from the Spirit realm, if only We clearly ask for It and allow for It, come what May.  I think the Boss energy in me is right when he sings, “it takes a leap of faith”, when We make the conscious choice to surrender to the Will of the Universe.  Easier said than done!  Do You need to pay more attention to learn something new, to your intellectual development, communicate more effectively to others and/or enjoy Life more by becoming more playful?  Dolphin energy can help You in this area.

If We swim with Dolphin in the oceans of Life, We invoke Its medicine of knowing Our primordial history and remembering the power of breath and sound.  I know the experience of being highly sensitive to the vibrations of others, as I feel them reverberating within my soul very organically and naturally.  However, even those of Us whom are oblivious Our deeper Selves and/or less aware of the energies of others, We all stand to benefit from learning how to incorporate conscious breathing and sound into Our daily transactions.  How many panic attacks could be derailed by simply taking in a deep breath through the nose and slowly exhaling through somewhat closed, pursed lips and repeating this process three times?  Picture calming, relaxing thoughts, perhaps a waterfall and say positive self-talk statements, such as “I am relaxed”.  After this brief walking meditation, see how you feel and repeat as necessary.  However, if You begin to feel dizzy, please sit down and rest for a spell.  After all, Water symbolizes creation, passion, sexuality, new dimensions, forces and is the Element of all Life.  Remembering how to breathe consciously empowers Us to heal Our Selves in mind-body-spirit within the unchartered waters of Your True Self.  In the spirit of that, I strongly encourage You to meditate on Dolphin and consciously connect the dots of your thoughts, feelings and behaviors.  Consider getting outside for some fresh air, play, explore and remember to breathe!  Sea beyond Your small pod, toward Our greater Global community.  And please be mindful of the hungry energies of the Full Moon on March 8th and the waning digestion process thereafter.

I Hopi You are well,

Ari

Dancing to the rhythmic drumbeat of Grouse

I remember a Grouse milling about along a border area recently and it reminded me of a time when I saw one of its kind “shake, rattle and roll” by leading a group of bystanders away from its children, as it did a mystical figure 8 dance.  Can’t You hear Its rapturous lyrics, “Grouse . . . of the sacred spiral, leading Us on, to reach the everlasting heights, where We can live as One”?

During the waning of Groundhog Day and the Imbolc and the waxing on of the Moon . . . if We are paying attention to the subtleties of Mother Nature, then We are keenly aware that the seeds underground are starting to think about coming up.  Energetically, spring is beginning right now as winter is fading and light is returning.  May We find a bounce in Our giddy up as We Spring forth the Equinox on March 20th.  I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I noticed a Grouse at this time calling out to me, given that Grouse medicine’s Sacred Spiral symbolizes personal power.  I wonder if Tony Robbins tapped into his Grouse totem when he started his Personal Power! series?  Moreover, Grouse’s dancing evokes a sense of personal vision and enlightenment as We learn to walk the center of a circle in a figure 8, the sign of Infinity to induce a trance through dance in the drumbeat of Our Heart’s footsteps.  I can see Kevin Bacon’s character in Footloose tapping his feet to Mother Earth’s drumbeat, as he reads a passage from the Bible about the power of dance to commune with Great Spirit, though as I recall expressing it differently than I.  What’s that about Diversity within Unity?  As We shuffle onward, Grouse’s spiraling dancing has the potential to help Us take flight by linking masculine and feminine energies (yin and yang, light and dark) so within as without, as above, so below.  Further, Grouse medicine reveals the process of transcending Our humanity vis-a-vis accessing presence during the robotic doings of Our daily walk.  Merely a simple shift in awareness, in allowing Our Selves to be more present in a heartfelt space, We are afforded the opportunity to transmutes a rote doing experience into a Golden One, by shifting internally and aligning with Nature’s Pulse organically.

Here on Channel Tao, I might not be Dancing with the Stars.  But my way of “gittin’ jiggy with it” is to go out ‘neath a Starry Night, while taichi dancing around a figure eight, simultaneously playing with my new light saber.  I realize my way of dancing may be a bit unique, but perhaps Yours is too.  Though I’m not keeping score, I’m happy with an 8, while I’m wishing all of you a perfect 10!  Will Tom Brady stay calm in the pocket and allow his psychic abilities to be more tuned in as he reads complex defensive fronts and spirals away from Giants singing to the tune of, “fee fi foe fum . . . ?”  If You are watching the Big Game on Sunday, one concrete way to shift from a robotic experience to an Enlightening experience is to let go of outcome and just watch, without judgment and let whatever comes up for You to pass with care.  Who knows, by allowing the game to unfold as it Will, your experience with it might just be Super–and not intercepted by any unwelcome feelings that may arise.  Also, please consider indulging in the Full Moon on Tuesday, February 7 and digesting the energies It has to offer You this time around.

I Hopi You are well,

Hungry Like the Wolf

I remember when I was “24 and there’s so much more”, while visiting my uncle and family out in San Francisco, being really into Beat poetry at the time and contemplating moving out to the Bay Area.  One evening, we ventured out to North Beach, ate at a place where Francis Ford Coppola reportedly liked to eat that featured a garlic & basil pizza to die for, then went across the street for a brew at Vesuvius, followed by getting lost for a while in City Lights, the worlds largest independent bookstore.  While On The Road, I felt the spirits of Jack Kerouac, Neale Cassidy and Allen Ginsberg with me howling at night, feeling like one of the ’10, 000 Maniacs’ in this “world of 10, 000 things.”

“Wolf . . . teacher, pathfinder, moon-dog of my Soul.  Howling, singing teaching how to know new ideas who returns to the clan to teach and share medicine.”  I can relate to the Wolf in me as I venture out into the woods, away from the pack and my den to commune with Nature and be with my solitude.  Although I am loyal like a dog and a faithful family guy, I really need to just be with myself sometimes (don’t we all?).  As such, I set the intention and choose to follow through with creating that space for myself down wit my Nervous Woodland Creature (NWC) peeps, Straight Outta Woodland, Ma Chucka.  Moreover, the cumulative effect of staying in alignment with this energetic action plan, is that I am noticing that I am becoming the change I want to see in the world.  And though I firmly Bee Leave in the ancient wisdom that asserts, ‘heal Thyself’, I also understand the awareness that there is no substitute for good therapy.  In the spirit of healing Our Selves, sometimes it takes letting go and trusting a gifted professional to allow Our Selves to tap into Our power in a way that has been cloaked in the Darkness of the subconscious Underground, due to Unseen fears within the individual and Collective Consciousness.  Although this is important for all of Us, it is especially paramount for those of Us that are healers and helpers, as We have a responsibility to elevate Our vibrations to Our Higher Selves.  I strongly encourage all of You to spend some time alone out in Nature and/or a quiet Sacred Space that allows the teacher in You to come about.  In doing so, You will evoke and share great truths that will help lead Us to a perceptual shift in the consciousness of Humankind and beyond.  “Mister I ain’t no boy, no I’m a man and I believe in the Promised Land!”

In conclusion, I remember hearing an old Native American story of Grandfather that is teaching his grandson about controlling his emotions and keeping his power without auctioning it off by reacting without reserve.  Grandfather relates to his grandson that there are two Wolves always fighting with each other inside his head.  One wolf is quick to anger and will rage in its desire to tear everything he sees into tiny little pieces.  The other Wolf understands Temperance and is very wise, stays in control of himself, knows when to assert his power and when to yield.  After hearing Grandfather tell this story, grandson asks, “which one wins?”  Grandfather responds, “whichever one I feed.”  Remember balance between authentic Self and respectful family/community is key.  Please enjoy becoming the Full Moon during the wee hours of January 9th, shapeshifting into its energies and the hearty digestion process thereafter–as We breathe fire into the Chinese Year of the Dragon on January 23, 2012.

While Gazing At A Blue Moon, I Behold An Ivory Tusk

I remember being in the company of men recently, when a fraternal friend spontaneously felt inspired to give me a ‘item of power’ in the form of a small stone elephant carrying a baby elephant within it. While the Elephant’s presence was unknown to us at the time, I could foresee a future blog entry, as I allowed myself to receive the gift. Native to Asia and Africa, Elephant’s are intelligent, emotional and have strong feelings to other members of the herd. What’s more, I’ve heard that One may borrow and acquire Elephant traits of intelligence, strength and loyalty.

Additionally, it is said that Mothers of great teachers and masters dream of White Elephants, in much the same way as Native American myths speak of the significance of the White Buffalo. Moreover, in Hindu mythology, Ganesh was a god to help humans overcome Life’s trials and tribulations. I don’t know if my daughter knows something that I don’t when she calls me “Da Da Buddha”, but there is a story that tells of Buddha’s Mother dreaming of carrying a White Elephant. I never asked my mom about her dreams while she was pregnant with me, though I suspect some fancy Jungian analyst might have a stampede with the possibilities. And I’m sure a Doubting Thomas might give birth to a god of opinion asserting, “don’t ever pay attention to your dreams while pregnant.” Elephant may encourage Us to focus on developing our mental faculties rather than fixating on the physical. Also, Elephant might urge Us to help those whom are less powerful to rise up and press on. Ah, what a long, strange trip it’s been . . . but We keep on truckin’. Further in the festival of Life, We just might tap into ancient wisdom that unearths fundamental truths. For example, it is good medicine to let go of someone or something that has served as security in One’s consciousness. When We allow Ourselves to let go, we let God and co-create win-win solutions that breathes clean energy that We all share as One.

Finally, when I time travel to childhood, I remember gazing at the clouds and noticing them change into different formations. Although I didn’t realize it at the time, I now realize this powerful meditation stimulates psychic energies. When my wife was pregnant, I remember seeing my unborn daughter in the sky that helped me develop a psychic connection with her and nurtured a way for me to carry her with me during the pregnancy. Moreover, while at my Reiki 3 Attunement recently, we were asked about how we felt on the morning after 11.11.11. In a roomful of women, I shared that I felt like I was pregnant, gave birth and felt a powerful sense of release and relief. Perhaps synchronisticly, Elephant symbolizes sexuality and discernment, which aromatherapy may stimulate. Elephant’s ivory tusk reminds Us to stay rooted and shift Our perceptions into Higher Consciousness, a la “as above, so below”, staying present with the Self, family, community, etc. Enjoy the energies of the Full Moon glow on Saturday, December 10th!

Soaring With Hawk

I remember getting some Thai food to go recently and while chillin’ wit my peeps at the crib, I read my fortune aloud, “to remember is to understand.” In the spirit of that, I observed some experiences recently watching mobs of Crows chasing away a Hawk soaring above, merely getting a bird’s-eye view in their neck of the woods.  It is true that Crow represents magic, shapeshifting, darkness and the womb of life. Moreover, their communication skills are effective and impressive to say the least. How many skilled politicians have abused Crow medicine in their rise to power? And while it is tempting auction off the Self to become a demon ruling in hell rather than serving in Heaven, “when the trumpet sounds its call”, Blue Jay reminds me that I’d rather be “in that New Morning” by staying True to the Self. Yes, the little ego’s trickery enjoys stifling the evolving personality, but that doesn’t qualify allowing it to happen. For then it becomes a conscious choice to squelch One’s spiritual growth and the evolution of One’s personality. “Hawk . . . Messenger of the sky, circle my dreams and teach me the message as we fly.” Akin to Mercury, the messenger of the gods, Hawk’s medicine remedy’s Our powers of observation, watching, noticing and paying attention to Life’s signals. Did anyone else out there hear Bruce Springsteen plea for Us in this light after 911?

I remember when Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream that “We shall Overcome” and like Hawk, inspired Us to rise to the occasion and transcend life’s circumstances, regardless of how daunting and challenging Our Life’s obstacles may appear. But wisdom speaks to Us as we understand “when the doors of perception are cleansed, things will appear as they truly are.” Moreover, Hawk asserts, “you are only as powerful as your capacity to perceive, receive and use your abilities.” What’s more, Hawk reminds Us that awareness is the intuitive capacity to discern fact from fiction and “perceive, receive and use (Our) abilities”. I hardly think Fox News can compete with Hawk’s ‘Fair and Balanced’ view from the perch Hawk sits. Unlike a restless and nervous Mouse, whom sees from a mircrocosmic orbit and zones in on details, Hawk observes the big picture and takes in a holistic view, as Hawk “flies close to the light of Grandfather Sun,” while carrying a “keen eye and a bold heart.” I wonder if folks like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Gandhi had a Hawk totem to help them rise to the occasion against all odds, as they BOLDLY faced the Monster of Fear with a gentle heartfelt gaze? In my experiences with trauma, I’ve called on Hawk’s energy to help me rise up and feather my ripple, even when I wasn’t conscious of it.

Finally, Hawk’s talons are strong, even offering protection from a normally lethal snake bite. Moreover, Hawk can take out a Snake without a Snake ever knowing what hit Him. Alas, with great power comes great responsibility, so it is important to be mindful of speaking One’s truth, with the understanding that One’s words, with Hawk medicine, can be rapturous and deadly. Further, Hawk’s energy allows Us to tap into Our Root Chakra and Kundalini, as We remember the power of staying grounded in Our journey, even when soaring above the Clouds. I wrote a letter to someone whom I care deeply about this week, expressing heartfelt sentiments that might be bitter for the receiver to digest. However, I know that I expressed myself authentically, respectfully and coming from a place of Temperance. In carrying the energy of Temperance, We invoke Archetypal forces that temper beauty and harmony, access Higher Consciousness, transcend the ego and actualize Our True Soul purpose. Paradoxically, in my letter, I released old hopes and dreams and at the same time, opened up New Space, a la “out with the old, in with the new.” Happy Full Moon in Taurus later on this week. Can You hear the Scorpions singing “Winds of Change”?

I Hopi You are well,

Ari

Trotting With Fox

After waxing on a bit of a lather during a waning run recently, I noticed a Fox not noticing me as She crossed the road with a fresh kill in Her mouth.  Some kind of rodent, maybe it was a Mouse or a Rat, but admittedly I couldn’t quite zone in enough to attend to the detail or shrewd enough to say for sure. Whatever Nervous Woodland Creature (NWC) it was, perhaps it was down with ‘investing in loss’, less wily  than Fox, let go of a fight and accepted the ‘death of the old self’ without going Straight Outta Woodland. As it were, I remained camouflaged until Fox became aware of me at the border area to the wetlands and scurried away to secure its catch.  I wonder if Ralph Ellison was inspired by his Fox totem when he wrote Invisible Man?

I remember when I was in the woods a while back for a spell, just coming out of my meditation, as I observed Fox trotting merely a stone’s toss from me without flickering an eye as it passed me by. Given Her keen sense of smell and heightened capacity for discrimination and discernment (and my doubly large energy field), Fox’s Sacred Feminine energy is teaching me well in learning Merlin’s skills of concealment, as I learn to fade into the background and adjust my aura to the social environment accordingly (without giving up my power or taking someone else’s). And then a Blue Jay did a ‘fly by’ and rang like a ‘bell of mindfulness’ that I’d rather be a True Wizard than a master illusionist. Moreover, a Grasshopper’s quantum leap reminded me to venture out and take some risks in order to evolve and broadly jump forward.  In blazing my own trail, especially as We approach Fall, I am encouraged to release my fears of leaving others behind and fall back, while springing forward–for there is always freewill and what works for others probably won’t work for me and vice versa.  And then a Praying Mantis encouraged me to listen to my Inner Voice and remember Star Wars Jedi Qwi Gong Jin and spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle’s combined wisdom to quiet my mind, heed stillness, continue to cultivate my internal martial arts practice vis-a-vis remembering to breathe in ‘Righteous Chi’ . . . a walking meditation that is nothing to sneeze at during these changing seasons.

Finally, while recently watching “bush TV” in my backyard garden, I glanced up from the fire and gazed at the glowing Moon illuminating the golden Black Eyed Susan reflecting back my way. I could smell my fragrant flowering consciousness blooming in my own inner garden, even as Summer’s petals paradoxically wilt away.  In the Spirit of nocturnal power, Fox reinforces to Us that We can become the change we want to see by cutting back to Inner Peace, walking with joy in Our steps and following Our bliss.  As We rapidly approach and soon pass the transient Autumn Equinox and Light and Dark become equal as One . . . dare We enjoy the waning Light, welcome the forthcoming Dark and turn Our focus “Yinward”.  When We open Ourselves up to trotting in step with Fox’s tracks, We open up to allowing Ourselves to tap into Our creative energy and act from a heartfelt Inner Space. My encounter with Fox reminds me to be an open conduit for the Universe to flow through my human form in a way that represents Oneness, Diversity in Unity and sheds light on the shadowy veils that try to keep Us in Plato’s Cave. Now, isn’t that Foxy Aquarian footing out of this world?  Excuse me, while I kiss the sky . . .

I Hopi You are well,

Barefoot In The Woods

While flying solo in the woods recently, I considered whether or not I’d bring my Aboriginal didgeridoo (bought in USA made in Indonesia) to blow in the wind. However, I shifted gears and opted for a standard low tech experience and ‘invested in loss’ by passing on carrying a big stick.  After finding a favorite hiding spot, I settled into a somewhat ‘Lotus’ meditation position and enjoyed significant encounters with Turtle and brother Frog and Frog (remember T.V. classic Newhart and characters Larry, Darryl and Darryl?).  Although Turtle was alive and well, I couldn’t detect any movement in the hour or so I watched Her–even with my Grandmother’s trusted field glasses.  In the spirit of the Art of Persuasion, I invite folks to bow to the wisdom of Turtle and Her knowledge of patience and longevity and Frog’s beat boxing of forthcoming changes in weather patterns.  Wood You Bee Leave that I heard many Ma’ Chuckin’ Nervous Woodland Creature (NWC) peeping their version of The Boss, “when I’m out in the trails, tweet, tweet, tweet . . . I stick where I want to stick.”

Coincidentally, my shared encounters with Frog and Turtle represent linkages to the Moon and Tides and portals into the Faerie Realm.  With my trusted faggot of Tibetan incense sticks to burn, I put a little Fairy Creme on my face to set the mood.  As I listened to Frog and Turtle, I heard the lyrics, “I miss the rains down in Africa . . . can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder, you better run, you better take cover . . .  rock me mama like the wind and the rain . . . (and) here comes the story of the hurricane.”  And while I may no longer be physically residing in Australia or Africa, I am protected by Mother’s shell, inspired to create life anew, welcoming the tears and rains as cleansing rituals to clear space for the shifting tides and changing seasons–hopefully without getting too washed out in the process, given tumultuous weather patterns (come on Irene) and a splitting Comet Elenin.  By calling on Frog, we invoke its medicine to breathe in new life, live joyfully and harmoniously . . . cleansing ourselves of “any person, place, or thing that does not contribute to your new state of serenity and replenishment.” Soaking in a bathtub with a little sea salt and perhaps a few drops of lavender has a relaxing, cleansing and detoxifying effect.  Got a frog in your throat?  Please consider gargling with warm sea salt water to open up the capillaries. Spraying liquid from your mouth into a fire in the spirit of manifestation and/or letting go and more importantly gratitude has a powerful Shamanic cleansing effect as well, a la ‘out with the old, in with the new’.

Finally, please consider Turtle’s patient and kind reminders for Us to stay slow and low in the tempo of life.  Given how nuts things can get in the transition from Summer to Fall, Turtle inspires Us to allow the river to flow to Us, rather than trying to levy its waters.  By staying grounded and honoring Our Mother, We co-creatively build the New Earth together. In this process, “Turtle medicine can teach new perceptions about time and our relationship with it.”  I’ve also seen that it stimulates clairvoyance and heard it amplifies clairaudience, as well as improving Our capacity to smell the scents of Life in more discriminate ways.  It’s as if Turtle and Frog are beckoning Us to stop and smell the roses–even if it means hoppily standing in the rain once in a while.  And while noticing the flowers in your garden, please remember to soak in the magical Full Moon on Monday into your sea of consciousness.  I’m glowing already merely envisioning it in my Third Eye!

I Hopi You are well,
