A New Moon in Aquarius, A Chinese New Year of the Snake, The Imbolc, Groundhog Energy and the Security Blanket of a Full Snow Moon.

A New Moon in Aquarius and the Chinese New Year of the Snake will both happen on January 29th!

Lots of new energies in the air to percolate in our souls to rework old patterns, and let go of old ways of doing things.

As we have been exploring in this blog, Snake is good energy medicine for shedding our old skins (death), and transformation (rebirth) with the new skin taking root.

And with Groundhog Day coming up, the death of the old self, and a rebirthing new self is front and center at this time.

Whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not, Spring will officially arrive on March 20, 2025.

Seasons, like the cycle of life, is full of shades of grey and not all black and white.

New ideas and new inspirations are in the air!

Perhaps we will experience more ah-ha moments, explore novel neuronal pathways, and even recognize new potentials in the mirror of our minds.

Remember the old meditative mantra to keep an open, passive attitude that rests in a mindset of allowing what is unfolding in the theater of the mind by letting go of the clinging and grasping.

This is a universal experience because we humans have a lot of hangups.

There’s an internal charge that triggers or gets triggered by our tendency toward the clinging and grasping. It’s hard to know what comes first in the behavioral trap; the chicken or the egg.

When you notice rigid thinking or a fixed mind; shift instead to positive self talk without trying to push away or fight any visiting thoughts, emotions or feelings.

Even with the recent stretch of arctic temperatures that many of us have experienced, there is an awakening taking place in our inner worlds. This perceptible experience is in alignment with the rebirth of spring coming down the pike in later March.

In the stillness of Old Man Winter, do you feel the subtle stirring of the seeds underground starting to think about waking up?

During the quiet of Winter, it’s a good time to turn yinward, slow down, and reflect on our darker emotions.

Tis the season to venture into our inner caves as the light gradually gains momentum as we make our way toward the Imbolc aka Groundhog Day on February 2nd.

The Imbolc marks the approximate halfway point between the past Winter Solstice and the forthcoming Spring Equinox; when the light and dark energies will be equal again in both hemispheres.

The energy of Groundhog symbolizes the spiritual experience of death without dying, and reflects the metaphorical death of the old self without physically dying.

When we let go of who we were in the past, we become more receptive to new ways of becoming our future self in the here and now.

The new energies in the air at this moment in time are good catalysts for that.

Old wounds or unfinished business may surface now.

Further, they may light a torch to make the changes needed to make and release what is needed to release for new growth and rebirth to take place.

Even as we move through our challenges; by focusing on the silver linings, it will be easier to focus on seeing the positives in all situations.

We are being called to focus on new possibilities and to see things from a more expansive viewpoint.

May we open our minds, open our hearts, and to see the positive side. We will be guided there if we lean into the messages and divine signals around us.

Speaking of the celestial seasonings, a Full Snow Moon will happen on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

In many places in the Northern Hemisphere, this moon typically embodies its name with historical peak snowfall accumulation. Many other names capture the depleting winter supplies of this moon cycle.

For example, other names reflect that after months of the death cycle of Winter; February can be a month of low food supplies with no new plants to replenish supplies.

But in this apparent emptiness, may we allow for expanding spaciousness within our unfolding awakening consciousness.

At this moment in time, use the new energies to cultivate the transformation you want to see come about in your inner and outer worlds.

Remember that there is a lot that you have little or no control over what happens to you during our earth walk.

But like Nelson Mandela would say . . . Our power to choose our attitude is something nobody can take away from you unless you let them.

Pretty powerful statement made by a beautiful soul who said that during his 30 incarceration for standing up to Apartheid before he was released and became the new President of a new South Africa.

Take care of yourselves everyone,

Ari

A New Moon In Aquarius, Chinese New Year of the Dragon, Tunneling Through Imbolc with Groundhog Energy & Awakening The Ability To Accept Change With Ladybug.

Last Friday, February 2nd was the Imbolc, the approximate halfway point between the Winter Solstice and Vernal Equinox, or the first day of Spring on March 19th.

Days are getting longer everyday. Before long, light and dark energies will be equal on the first day of Spring. Like the yin and yang, masculine and feminine energies will be in equal alignment with Nature’s rhythym.

In modern American lore, the Imbolc is popularly know as Groundhog Day. Everyone wonders if the groundhog will see his shadow or not.

On a deeper level, Groundhog spiritually symbolizes death without dying, from an energetic perspective. Meditation on death without dying can encourage us to live our lives to the fullest- or play ever down like our last, as my old football coaches used to say.

Winter is the death cycle in Nature, when we go deeper into the Dreamtime. Groundhogs hibernate during the Winter. They remind us that even in the dirge, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Our tunneling through the darkness represents a safe passage into a new realm of being.

Energetically, the stirrings of Spring are happening as the seeds underground are starting to think about waking up. A simple shift in mindset might help give us a lift from any Winter blues we might be feeling now.

A New Moon in Aquarius on February 9th tunnels further into the Chinese New Year of the Wood Dragon on February 10th. Remember that Aquarius is rebellious and is in alignment with finding their own way as unique individuals, yet finding ways to be true to their selves but also fit into a group. This is captures the program design of Diversity Within Unity, the mantra of a New Age and Paradigm.

In Chinese astrology, the Wood element represents vitality and creativity. Dragon makes connection to success, intelligence and honor in Chinese culture. This alchemy makes people born in the Year of the Wood Dragon full of energy and drive. They dream of changing the world and spring forth innovative ideas and manifesting their ideas.

Also, I had an encounter with a ladybug recently. Winter is an unusual time to see them, but I took my encounter as a bright spot that warmer weather is on its way.

Ladybugs are symbolic of metamorphosis, as beetles also symbolize. Recognizing that change is an inevitable part of life, may we awaken to the reality that we will encounter death and rebirth during the season of authentic living. When one door closes, another door opens.

These spirit guides can awaken the idea of reincarnation. However, even if we believe in other lifetimes; it is wise to remember that our current lifetime should be our primary focus in the here and now.

May we allow our current life cycle to afford us the vantage point to see that our old selves are akin to past lives. And then we can look at our new self as once a future self that now is. Perhaps meditation on this perspective might open up your consciousness and relax rigid thought forms.

Remember what we resist persists. Might as well say yes to the changes in seasons that our mythical life quest reveals.

Take care of yourselves everyone,

A New Moon, Chinese Lunar New Year Of The Rabbit And Moving Further Into The New Aquarian Age & Paradigm . . .

A New Moon in Aquarius will happen on January 21,

right after Mercury returns direct on the 18th.

And then it will be a Chinese Lunar New Year of the Rabbit on January 22nd.

As the mental fog of Retrograde lifts and our inner skies clear up,

a heightened need for emotional freedom

might connect to more amplified emotional complexities.

Part of learning how to be human is getting out and interacting with others

because being in groups of people helps us understand our feelings.

Co-regulation breathes fresh air into the dirge of negative emotions like fear, anger and jealousy.

Shadow building is when we call in our fears from our subconscious into our waking lives.

Dr. Martin Luther King’s spirit echoes the callback that darkness cannot drive out darkness.

The Prophetic King understood that only the light of consciousness will illuminate the shadows.

Remember what we resist persists.

A hallmark greeting card of Aquarius

scripts an overwhelming need for the individual to march to the beat of their own drum

by not conforming to the cultural programing of society.

And yet, there is the New Age of Aquarius paradigm

of balancing our Diversity within Unity.

We need to be who we are as authentic selves.

But at the same time, we need to find a way to fit into the oneness of group consciousness.

It is an interesting synchronicity to consider the serpent lines symbolic of Aquarius . . .

Does their propensity to travel into multiple mental dimensional airwaves

naturally align with knowledge brought to us by Sky People?

Might this knowledge help us shapeshift into new forms of evolutionary Homo Luminousity?

Soul travel is akin to dimensional bleeding.

We are of the Earth, but not in it.

One way to access spirit guides is through drumming,

which changes our brain waves, like meditation does.

In the shamanic traditions, journeying is a form of meditation.

Polaris starseeds like me share the air of a strong, single-minded streak of Aquarians.

It is in our North Star, if you’ll pardon the pun.

Energetically, Rabbit is symbolic of good fortune and reflects the powers of the moon.

It will be a good year to develop our sensitivity and artistic expressions,

as well as ambition, fitness & virtue.

Are you contemplating starting a new project?

What are you envisioning for your new self?

Rabbits are associated with sexuality and fertility.

At it’s best, sex can be a passionate soul to soul intersection between lovebirds

in a romantic mind-body-spiritual dance step with one another.

But there are many ways other than physically having sex or childbirth

to play with these experiences in our lives.

For example, you can wear different colors, play music and sing

as forms to explore your sensuality,

as well as give birth to a new creative endeavor as a way to flirt with the fertility of life.

Also, these are all healthy ways to reclaim

and nurture a healthy relationship with your inner child.

May we leap and hop with Rabbit into the Faerie realm and other

magical adventures into rabbit holes of the underworld, middle or upper world.

Alternate realities are adventurous places for our minds and souls to travel.

Let us remember a callback to keep our feet on the ground and safely return to our hutch.

Staying grounded in this reality is just as important,

like the old spiritual mantra of walking with one foot in spirit, one foot in ground.

Dawn & dusk reflect the in between times where the veil

between the spirit and physical realms are thinner.

On February 2nd, it will be the Imbloc aka Groundhog Day.

Our ancestors honored the Imbolc because it was the approximate mid-point between the

Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox, the first day of Spring.

Energetically, Spring starts at this time, as the seeds underground start thinking about waking up.

Use the new year energies of the Winter slumber to meditate on what you would like to see

come out of hibernation and rebirth whence Spring arrives.

We’ll delve into that next time.

Take care of yourselves everyone,

Ari

A New Moon In Aquarius, Full Snow Moon & Turtling Along In February

A New Moon in Aquarius on February 1, 2022 aligns with the same date as the Chinese New Year of the Tiger. It is also the Imbolc/Groundhog Day on February 2nd. Our ancestors honored the Imbolc because it is the approximate midpoint between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. At this time, we are reminded that, in spite of the colder temperatures outside, daylight is gaining, and Spring is on its way. This is a complicated time with emotions, as there is a strong need for emotional freedom now. We are in the early stages of the Age of Aquarius, and this transition into a New Age and Paradigm is not without the experience of labor pains. Can’t you feel the contractions on the Planet right now? Life is always with its tension of opposites, or duality. As we have discussed, the Chinese symbol of the Yin and Yang reflects this. Meditation on the energy of Duality helps you feel at peace with your own inner duality. It helps you live in balance, in oneness and harmony, so that you may continue your path in a cosmic consciousness. It helps you discover life through enjoyment and play.

Truly, the energy of Aquarius has an assertive need for being an individual with a fiercely independent streak. But Aquarius also begs the question of how do I be my authentic self, and at the same time, fit in to group consciousness? As such, among groups, it can be easier to understand your feelings and free yourself from negative emotions such as fear, anger and jealousy. Linking up to the right groups can support us in accessing our inner genius, to think in new ways, even divergent from what we have been taught by family/societal conditioning. Getting in touch with inner freedom can be liberating for a soul in a way that transcends rules and defiance of them. Diversity in Unity is the Aquarian mantra. Gone are the days of the Lone Wolf.

Also, a Full Snow Moon arrives on February 16th. The Ojibwe called this moon the Bear Moon, while the Algonquin called it the Groundhog Moon. Winter is a good time for human forms of hibernation and nurturing our inner cubs before they are ready to come out into the sunlight for the spring thaw and begin manifestation on the Spring Equinox.

When Turtle swims into your stream of thoughts

Remember to picture Mother Earth

loving you with patience and kindness

The river does not need to be pushed

Slow down and take it one step, one breath, and one

moment at a time

How does slowing down help you stop and smell the roses?

What happens to the river’s rapids, when we go with

the flow instead of pushing the river?

Do you need to curl up in your shell and hide, or do you need to come out

into the sunlight and be with people?

Our ancestors celebrated the Full Snow Moon as the peak snowfall accumulation.

Beneath Winter’s dirge,

stirrings of Spring are beginning to think about coming out of Plato’s Cave.

Picture a Turtle protected by an invincible shell,

securely anchored deeply into Mother Earth.

Turtle’s spirit is an ancient reminder of our soulful connection to our living planet.

Our ancestors celebrated the Imbolc,

the mid-point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox.

Also, this February brings the Chinese-Lunar year of the Tiger.

Now more than ever, meditation on Tiger can inspire a deep freedom for

cultivating our passions, power, devotion and sensuality.

Running a hurried up offense is a popular way to live on Earth today . . .

Might as well wise up to Turtle’s wisdom to remember

Do you need to escape from the worries of the world for a spell?

Mother Earth’s ancient wisdom to slow down our tempo and anchor in Her ground

Or do you need to come out of your of your shell and be more social?

Meditate on Turtle for a deeper understanding of

patience and planetary connection

A Chinese-Lunar New Year reminds us that Spring is arriving energetically

In spite of probable peaks in snowfall accumulation . . .

Do you feel the seeds underground starting to think about waking up?

Time to bury your ideas in the ground and let the sunlight do its business . . .

So that they may organically blossom in the Spring

Turtle’s age-old shell symbolizes soulful protection –

In these hard times . . .

May we weather Climate Change with mindful wisdom

Commentary:

Turtles are older than dinosaurs and carry an ancient wisdom on their backs. If there are any spirit guides to help us open up to the idea of Karma, Turtle is a good role model. Karma can easily be understood as the law of cause and effect. If you are paying attention to the big picture, you start noticing how cause and effect impacts your life and then have ability to transcend it. Have you ever noticed that the more you hurry or try to expedite a process, the more your hurried pace slows you down in the long run? Through patience and compassion, we become equipped to harmonize with our conflicts. T’ai Chi is often practiced in slow motion. The idea behind this slow and meditative internal martial art is that if you practice it at a slow pace, you will be fast if and when the situation calls for fast action. When we slow down, observe the moments as they come without judgment and learn to be with what is. May we cultivate energy gradually and powerfully like water.

In my orientation, I came into this realm strongly aligned with the energy of Rabbit. I remember Grandmother taking me to see story hour at the local library in my Preschool years. I had a hard time understanding the story of the tortoise and the hare. But that makes sense to me now, especially because I was raised in a culture that did not teach us about opposites. We were taught that it’s either this, or that . . . just say no, just do it. Living in America was a sea full of mixed messages that mirrors growing up as a child in a psychotic household. Meditating on Turtle helps relax any pressures of the cultural river we might feel we are pushing against. Just knowing that these creatures are older than dinosaurs helps me appreciate a long range perspective. Rome wasn’t built in a day. All we really have is right now. Might as well take it in. If you need to, go within your shell to take refuge from the worries of the world, or you can come out of your shell and congregate with others. Knowing when to turn inward, and when to socialize is about knowing balance within yourself. Some people are naturally more monkish and hermit like, while others are more pod oriented, and thrive on others to feed them. Nature just reflects to us where we are at and what we need to work with. Let Turtle guide you in wise council.

Like many, I have been in a place of wishing the weather was different from what it was. After I was a child, back when enjoyed being outside regardless of climate, I started to internalize an adult-centric perspective about certain weather being preferable to others, namely complaints about the cold, dark and stormy, and the like. For many people, it doesn’t really matter – it’s too hot, bright, buggy, windy, the laundry list is endless. But for those of you who live in a northern climate, and really hate winter – knowing the half way point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox happens this month may help you appreciate that the sunlight is rising, and warmer temperatures are on their way. I remember being up in the Andean mountain range in South America, and the little Indigenous children were trying to sell us rotten berries for a buck or two. It was a sobering reflection for me to see such a pristine, natural habitat, and yet such abject poverty. Privileged first world people were traveling here to appreciate the natural riches of this land, and yet the Indigenous people who lived in this natural treasure were fighting for survival.

I remember some of my old football coaches telling us that we should play every down like it’s our last. It was a good metaphor for life. Like the Hopi say, we are in the 11th hour, and we are the one’s we have been waiting for. The time is now. We are at a point in our current experience that we have the power to make ourselves go extinct or awaken to a massive shift in our collective consciousness. The reality is that an old world is dying, while the trumpet of a new world sounds its call. Out of the ashes, a phoenix rises. May we become beacons of light in a world of darkness. Mindfulness isn’t a cure. It is a way of paying attention to the present moment, and noticing what it is, without getting sucked in to labels or judgment.

Take care of yourselves everyone,

Ari
